Students’ Exciting Visit to “Proto Thema” Newspaper Headquarters. Tuesday January 21, a group of enthusiastic students, members of the EPAS team of our school had the opportunity to visit the headquarters of Proto Thema. This visit was not only a chance to learn about journalism but also an inspiring glimpse into the fast-paced world of news reporting and publishing.

The visit began with a warm welcome from the newspaper s editorial team. The students were guided through the vibrant newsroom, where the energy of journalistic creativity was palpable and they were impressed by the dedication required in order to create an interesting article.

They received valuable insights about the process of news gathering, fact-checking, and writing. The journalists explained how stories are prioritized, edited, and prepared for both print and online platforms.

The Freedom of the Press which refers to the right of journalists and media outlets to operate independently and report on matters without interference, censorship, or control by the government or other powerful entities, as a cornerstone of democracy was also discussed as our students are working on this issue as European Council Ambassadors this year.

The editorial team also discussed the importance of adapting to the digital age. They introduced students to the technological tools and platforms that Proto Thema uses to ensure real-time reporting and reader engagement. To make the experience even more interactive, the students were invited to participate in a mock editorial meeting after they had worked in groups as journalists.

They chose their stories, wrote articles, debated their importance and decided on the layout of the coverpage. This hands-on activity gave them a sense of what it feels like to be part of a professional newsroom. We would like to thank Proto Thema for this invaluable experience. We would also like to express our sincere gratitude to Mr. Nikitas Koronakis and Mr. Giannis Kiosoglou for the time they devoted their support and guidance during our visit.
